Celebration of the 20th anniversary of Krytyka

On Saturday, December 2, 2017, the Shevchenko Scientific Society invites the public to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Krytyka, the Ukrainian intellectual monthly/bi-monthly magazine and its publisher.

Founded in 1997 by Harvard University professor of Ukrainian literature George G. Grabowicz, and a few Ukrainian intellectuals, Krytyka  took as its inspiration The New York Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement and the Polish, Paris-based journal Kultura. The publication continues to offer detailed and research-based analyses of historical, political, and cultural developments in Ukraine, Russia, and Eastern Europe; its main audience consists of intellectuals, university faculty, and graduate students.

Krytyka is an avant-garde journal for discussions on issues otherwise less discussed in the Ukrainian context: historical memory, xenophobia, gender and sexual discrimination, revisions of the literary canon, problems of Ukrainian scholarship and education, and so on. Presentation participants include George G. Grabowicz, Halyna Hryn, Oleh Kotsyuba, Vasyl Makhno, Alexander J. Motyl, Maria G. Rewakowicz, and Yuriy Tarnawsky. The event will take place at the Society's building, 63 Fourth Avenue (between 9th and 10th Sts.) at 5 p.m.
